Consider Me

Consider me

We all want to be considered. It seems as though we always consider others, but others don’t seem to consider us. We just want to yell….Consider me.

This year I have the great joy of teaching fourth grade Reading. I teach word-part strategy (suffix, prefix and root) so that students can learn to break words down. This technique will make some long or complex words more manageable for students who may be intimidated by the length of words.

So, I came across this word consider, which is not a long word at all. Yet, this simple little word had me mystified. This word has a Latin prefix “con”, which means with and a root “sider” deriving from the Latin “sidus” or “sider” which means star or sky. Dictionary.com’s etymologic definition -consider means to gaze upon the stars or to look at closely. I want someone to gaze at me or look at me closely.

All of my life I felt as though I considered others more than they considered me. I did this just to keep peace…for them…ok, for me. To avoid further conflict I would just bite the bullet. After so long, of considering others, one of three things will happen:

One, you become bitter at the fact that no one ever considers you. You bottle it up until one day you blow up at a person (usually someone close to you who has no idea of your developed or developing insecurity) to make sure they understand you are worth being considered. In this bitterness, you might even become selfish and stop considering others. Why should you??? They don’t consider you anyway. DANGER ZONE!!!

Two, you continue to consider others just to keep the peace, all the while hoping that someone one day will consider you. In this state, you might feel defeated at everything you do. Your self esteem is shot. Your relationships never quite work out. Your name is always “forgotten” in the Thank You speeches. They know they wronged you, but they know you will understand and forgive. Matter fact, you might be getting mad as you read this, because you know it is true. Yet, you still won’t say anything just to keep the peace for them…ok for you.

Three, you realize that you have been trying to consider people who will never consider you. In other words, you will try to please people who don’t see your worth. You realize that you have overlooked the people who truly consider you. You become paralyzed and don't know who to trust, love or consider.

Jesus considered, considers and will consider you. He gazes upon you waiting for the day that you realize that you are considered. God has placed people in your life to consider you as much as you would consider them. Sometime it’s hard to see these people because they are humble, sweet, kind and selfless. They are like you, but you are blind to see their consideration because you seek the consideration of those who will never consider you.

In Haggai chapter 1, God instructs His prophet to tell His people to consider their ways. I challenge you to stop operating as though God has not considered you.

Consider your ways. Why do you do… what you do for people? Do you consider God? Sometimes we embellish in all types of activities trying to please those who can’t consider us in a Godly fashion. Sometimes we get upset because people don’t have the capacity to consider us as we think they ought. God has called you to be compassionate, loving and considerate. You cannot get upset when others don’t share the same conviction.

All that you have been through has brought you to this place to consider Him. I have been in each scenario mentioned and I am still growing. I have realized that God considered me when He sent His Son. I realize that Christ died considering me. I realize that from now on, when I feel like I want to explode because I feel like no one considers me, I will consider Him. Will you consider Christ today? Will you gaze upon Him and look at Him closely? When you do this, it takes the overwhelming complex burden of keeping the peace and makes life more manageable. He says today, CONSIDER ME!!!

Isaiah 40:26(NASB)

26 Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the

strength of His power,Not one of them is missing.
