Power of Words

The Power of Words

There is a story of a woman in a small town who came up some bad luck, so she went to a local minister with her troubled conscience. The minister knew her to be a habitual gossipper—she had spitefully used and talked about everyone in the small town including her friends and her family.

“How can I make amends?” she pleaded. The minister said, “If you want to make peace with your conscience, take a bag of goose feathers and drop one on the porch of each one you have slandered.” When she had done so, she came back to the minister and said, “Is that all?” “No,” said the wise old minister, “you must go now and gather up every feather and bring them all back to me.”

After a long time the woman returned without a single feather. “The wind has blown them all away,” she said. “My good woman,” said the minister, “so it is with gossip. Unkind words are easily dropped, but we can never take them back again.”

It is so very easy to get caught up in the negative, the gossip, the non-of – your- business conversations. We usually don't realize our involvement (or admit our involvement) until someone calls us on it or we hurt someone's feelings.

Be mindful of the conversations you entertain and engage in.

It is as simple as: Does this conversation glorify, represent, define God's character?

Did you hear....?

I wasn't gonna say anything, but....

Guuuuuurrrrrrlllll....

Can you believe....

Man!!! Check this out....

These are warning sentence stems that let you know that you probably have no business sharing or being in conversation with whatever the topic. As believers we have a responsibility to be peace makers.

Mirror check- How many drama episodes have you escalated because you did not consider your calling, your position your God?

We can not be perfect. Yes, we slip at times. Gossip and drama can be attractive, but God.

Don't be weak in this standard of life. Run to God when confusion is in the air. Run to God when chaos hits the job. Run to God when sister or brother so and so come to you -again- with more DRAMA.

Remember we represent Christ. We are set apart.

Prayer starter-

Lord, May my words about your children, be ones that are spoken in the spirit of Your loving kindness. Give me strength to walk away from conversations that do not glorify you. Help me to encourage and bring up my sisters and brothers. Help me to be QUIET when necessary and speak out with your leading. I understand that recovery is better than worldly perfection. When I offend my brother or sister I pray for the humility to apologize and make amends. Thanks you Lord.
